Glycemic Index

Glycemic IndexThe Glycemic index is a measure of carbohydrate quality. A comparison of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood-glucose levels. Foods with  a high GI level cause your blood sugar (glucose) level to rise quickly. This causes a large insulin response which causes the blood sugar level to fall rapidly leading to what is often called the sugar crash or food coma. These constant spikes in blood sugar can lead to insulin resistance and Type II Diabetes. Knowing what, how and when to eat can keep your blood glucose levels at a more consistent level. Not only will this keep you healthier inside, it will also keep your energy level more constant throughout the day. Through proper diet and exercise many people can decrease or eliminate diabetes and blood pressure medications.
